A Revolution in Education

We never give ourselves enough credit for where we are currently in educational strategies and techniques.

Despite using an education model that is horribly outdated, despite states that seem to undercut public education openly, and despite an administration that seems downright hostile and ignorant of public education, we are educating millions of children every day.  After every trip abroad my perspective gets wider and wider.

Working abroad has helped me realize the incredible privilege we enjoy in the states; we have access to many pieces of information, training, and resources.  Teachers are in the same boat all over Latin America and the Caribbean:  Parents that expect their students to complete every page in the book, teachers that have never been in the classroom before but can speak good English, administrators that come from the business sector and are not trained in educational leadership, and having less and less time to teach and plan every year.

And this brings me back to my original thought:  I believe I need administrators, teachers, and students just as much as they need me; when we create partnerships, we get information that is critical to driving our goals forward and I help my customers get exactly what they need.

I feel excited when presented with a challenge in Professional Development because I know I have contacts capable of collaborating to create customized solutions; I reach out to experts, so I don’t have to be one, and we grow together.  Thank you all for what you do for the children in your communities every day, and never underestimate the strength of education to better all of our lives.  I am an agent of change, and I create capacity and give freely everywhere I go.
